The short version. Icarus runs on your computer. What you make with it is yours, stays on your disk, and we never see it.
You need an account only to buy tokens. If you choose to use the shared network, your work is sent to someone else's machine to be processed — that is the one time it leaves your own.
The software is provided as it is, with no guarantee. Don't use it to break the law or to harm other people on the network.
This summary is here to be read. The sections below are the part that binds, and they say the same things at greater length.
Icarus is provided by LEGAL ENTITY NAME of REGISTERED ADDRESS (“we”, “us”). By downloading, installing or using Icarus, or by creating an account on icarusuniverse.com, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use it.
Icarus is software you install and run on hardware you control. It stores your files, your models and your work on your own machine. We do not host it for you, we cannot see inside it, and if this website disappeared tomorrow your installation would keep working.
Two things are exceptions to that, and both are optional: buying tokens, which needs an account here; and the shared compute network, described in section 6.
Icarus and its source, name and logo are owned by LEGAL ENTITY NAME and protected by copyright. LICENCE TERMS — e.g. "All rights reserved. You are granted a personal, non-transferable licence to install and run Icarus on machines you control."
You may not sell Icarus, present it as your own, or remove notices of who made it. Components written by other people are included under their own licences, which travel with them.
An account exists to hold a token balance and a plan. It is not required to run Icarus. You are responsible for keeping your password and any two-factor device safe, and for what is done through your account.
While Icarus is new, finishing setup needs an invite code. We may change that at any time.
You may delete your account at any time. See the Privacy Policy for what that removes.
Running Icarus on your own computer is free. Tokens pay for work run on the shared network instead of on your own hardware.
This is the part worth reading twice, because it is the one place your work leaves your machine.
Icarus can send a job to another person's computer to be processed, and — if you switch it on — can accept other people's jobs on yours. When you send a job, the machine that runs it can see what you sent. Do not send anything through the shared network that you would not hand to a stranger. Keep it on your own hardware instead; that is the default and it is free.
If you offer your machine to the network, you decide when and for how much, and you are responsible for the electricity and bandwidth it uses. We do not guarantee that any particular machine is available, honest or fast.
We can refuse service, suspend an account or remove something shared through us if it breaks these rules.
If you publish a model or an ability for other people to install, you confirm you have the right to do so, and you allow us and other users to store, copy and distribute it for that purpose. You keep ownership of it. You can stop sharing it at any time, though we cannot recall copies already taken by other people.
Anything you make with Icarus and keep on your own machine remains entirely yours. We claim no licence over it, because we never have it.
Icarus is provided “as is”. It is new software, it has bugs, and it can lose data. Keep backups of anything you care about. We do not promise it is fit for any particular purpose, that it will be available, or that it is free of faults.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost data, lost profit, or any indirect loss arising from your use of Icarus, and our total liability is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.
We may change these terms. If a change matters, we will say so on this site before it takes effect, and the date at the top will change. Continuing to use Icarus after that means you accept the new version.
You can stop at any time by uninstalling it. We may end your access if you break these terms.
These terms are governed by the law of JURISDICTION, and its courts have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in.
